The Different Types Of Canoes

There are two types of canoes that are available. These are the traditional canoes and the modern canoes. Obviously, traditional designs are those made of natural materials. An example of the traditional canoe is the dugout. Usually it is made out of a log that is creatively turned into a canoe. This is the earliest and simplest canoe ever invented. In order to provide stability, some dugouts come with outriggers.

Another great example of a traditional canoe is the birch-bark canoe. Originally, this came from a wooden frame that was covered with bark of a birch tree intentionally made to be waterproof. It was commonly used in Eastern North America.

In the 19th century, canvass became preferred over birch mark. This was perceived as something more flexible and durable. Because of the desire to have more choices, many new types of canoes have been developed over time. Currently, companies are creating canoes with comfort in mind. This is made possible by better materials and compelling designs that have come about.

Among the modern canoes, the touring canoe provides ample space for people and possessions. This is made out of lightweight materials and can carry heavy packages. Aside from this, the whitewater canoe is another alternative. This can be used while people are kneeling inside. Also, a racing canoe is specifically intended for those canoeists who are in it for the speed.

Once people have been familiarized with the types of canoes, they should be able to find something that fits their needs. More than the look of the canoes, they should make sure that they settle for something that will last them for a very long time. That way, they do not have to replace it every few years.

Since it is very important that people get the right canoe, they should think things over and spend some time before purchasing anything. If possible, it is a good idea to get recommendations from experienced canoeists. One can also search online to compare styles and prices of various brands of canoes. Comparison shopping will help find the best buy for the money.

The decision ultimately will depend upon how the canoe will be used. That is why it is important to understand how the canoes differ. One wants to be sure and buy a canoe that will work best for how they are going to use it. Once they decide on the type of canoe they want, they may be able to get a good deal by shopping for a used canoe instead of a new one. Price should not be the only deciding factor however since a well built expensive canoe can last you for years to come.
